China is set to showcase a purpose-built humanoid robot designed to mimic a human operator’s movements while being controlled remotely.

The “Fuxi” robot from state-owned China North Industries Group Corporation (NORINCO) is designed for reconnaissance and patrol missions in high-intensity environments.

It is reportedly capable of operating in all weather conditions and is intended to support human-robot teaming during field missions.

Fuxi uses homegrown technologies focused on human motion sensing, movement transfer between platforms, and whole-body coordination.

While NORINCO has not disclosed detailed specifications, it said Fuxi can identify personnel and issue alerts when unusual situations arise.

Multiple Fuxi units can also operate in formation, with each robot copying its assigned operator’s movements in real time. 

The approach could eventually support fleets of humanoid robots taking on dangerous missions in place of human personnel.

The Age of Robotic Warfare

Fuxi joins a growing push by militaries and defense companies to explore humanoid robots as battlefield assets.

California-based Foundation Future Industries has envisioned an American frontline featuring 50,000 Phantom robots standing more than 5.9 feet (1.8 meters) tall, while Ukraine has recently launched a competition to develop armed robots for defense. 

India has also explored the technology, with its Defence Research and Development Organisation unveiling a prototype designed to walk and assist troops in combat. 

China’s Fuxi robots are debuting at the 2026 World Robot Conference in Beijing.
