The US Army is testing a quieter way to power battlefield assets, reducing dependence on traditional generators that can expose unit positions through their acoustic and thermal signatures.
During Project Convergence Capstone 6, GM Defense’s Expeditionary Power Integrated Kit (EPIQ) powered two 4th Infantry Division command nodes supporting command-and-control, intelligence, fires, communications, and sustainment operations.
The systems carried electrical loads of 9 and 30 kilowatts during the evaluation.

EPIQ kept the command nodes operating for three to eight hours without a running generator, relying on the genset only to recharge its batteries.
By minimizing generator use, the system suppresses acoustic and thermal signatures that could otherwise be detected by enemy sensors while also reducing fuel consumption, maintenance demands, and equipment wear.
Supporting Silent Ops
The exercise also evaluated Integrated Dynamics Engineering’s (IDE) Tactical Hybrid Generator and GENAIRCON vehicle power system, which separately supported the 4th Infantry Division.
According to The Defence Blog, the setup delivered what the company described as “assured power sustainment” and “genuinely silent operation” for Next Generation Command and Control (NGC2) nodes.

Project Convergence Capstone 6 marked one of the US Army’s largest field evaluations of the NGC2 initiative, launched in April 2025 to modernize battlefield command and control for maneuver forces.
“Project Convergence / NGC2 is where the US Army is writing the future of command and control, and GM Defense is proving what modern power can do,” the company stated.
“In a contested environment, that’s not just efficiency, that’s combat power.”
