An emerging Ukrainian counter-drone system is streamlining air defense operations by automating 95 percent of the interception process, from launch through to engagement.

Operators are now primarily responsible for target detection and real-time confirmation, with the system handling the remaining steps, including guiding an interceptor toward the selected threat.

Released footage from a recent demonstration shows the technology identifying and downing an Iranian-made Shahed drone.

The development was announced on social media by Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov.

“Autonomy is one of the key areas of development of modern air defense. Technologies like this enable faster responses to large-scale attacks and more effective protection of Ukrainian cities,” he said.

“We are scaling solutions that have already proved their effectiveness in combat conditions.”

From Concept to Deployment Within a Year

According to Fedorov, the system has completed combat testing in Ukraine’s northeastern Kharkiv region.

He credited the development to Brave1, Ukraine’s government-backed platform for emerging military technologies.

The developer is said to have progressed from prototype to operational deployment in under a year with support from the platform.
