L3Harris and Shield AI have completed the first flight test of an autonomous electronic warfare (EW) ecosystem capable of detecting, analyzing, and responding to electromagnetic threats without human intervention.

The demo integrated L3Harris’ Distributed Spectrum Collaboration and Operations (DiSCO) battle management ecosystem with the AI-enabled Hivemind mission autonomy software aboard a Green Wolf platform.

The test also included Deceptor electronic warfare payloads deployed on multiple unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

Using threat data from DiSCO, Hivemind autonomously directed the aircraft and rerouted follow-on UAVs through a safe operating zone in real time, allowing them to safely bypass hostile electromagnetic activity.

“This successful demonstration shows how quickly we can transform concepts into operational capability for the joint force,” said Lauren Barnes, president of spectrum superiority within communications and spectrum dominance at L3Harris.

“By pairing autonomous decision-making with advanced spectrum battle management, we’re giving warfighters the resilience and speed they need to stay ahead of rapidly evolving threats.”

Faster Threat Response

According to the companies, the flight test demonstrated the Green Wolf platform’s ability to support multiple mission types in distributed and networked electronic warfare operations.

It also showed how Hivemind can compress the sensor-to-decision cycle by enabling autonomous systems to detect, share, and respond to electromagnetic threats more quickly.

L3Harris and Shield AI said they plan to further expand autonomous EW capabilities through an open architecture designed for tactical-edge operations.

“L3Harris brings some of the most advanced electronic warfare capabilities in the world, and pairing DiSCO with Hivemind onboard Green Wolf produced something neither system could deliver alone,” said Christian Gutierrez, senior vice president for Hivemind at Shield AI.
