A flagship Ukrainian drone has just evolved, transforming from a simple airborne surveillance platform into an upgraded system that detects hostile interceptors in real-time.
Kyiv-based Skyeton described Raybird’s new capability as an improvement to the unmanned aerial system’s survivability during extended intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) missions.
With the new feature, Raybird can detect approaching interceptor drones in real time and alert operators when evasive action is possible, reducing the risk of loss during mission execution.
The company said the feature is being rolled out across all operational systems and will be integrated into serial production units.

“We take a very rigorous approach to every upgrade. Our primary goal is to make the Raybird more survivable in the most extreme conditions,” Skyeton CEO Roman Knyazhenko said.
“We carefully studied comparable solutions and technologies available across the industry and tested them extensively. Based on these results, we selected the most effective approach – one that significantly improves the aircraft’s ability to withstand threats from interceptor drones.”
Problem-Driven Upgrades
Skyeton said the update reflects the growing challenge posed by modern interceptor systems in contested airspace.
It has pushed ISR drones to evolve beyond simple passive survivability and integrate more active defense mechanisms.

Skyeton’s anti-interceptor update is meant as a multi-layered solution that brings detection and adaptive flight behavior under one capability, helping drones get back to homebase in one piece after completing their mission more often.
It follows earlier upgrades to Raybird, including a hydrogen motor integration introduced this year, which the company said forms part of a broader effort to deliver “systemic improvements” aligned with operational demands.
Meet Raybird
Skyeton describes Raybird as a small tactical unmanned aerial system designed for long-endurance covert missions.
It operates at altitudes of up to 5,500 meters (18,045 feet) with endurance of up to 28 hours and a range exceeding 2,500 kilometers (1,553 miles).
The platform also supports a range of mission payloads, including multisensor gimbals, aerial cameras, synthetic aperture radars, and radio frequency locators.
