A new ground-based “drone mothership” from Ukraine lets drones strike far behind enemy lines while troops remain safely out of the fight.

Developed by Ukrainian firm Temerland, the Gnom-DC (drone carrier) is a ground robotic platform that acts as a mobile base for first-person view (FPV) drones.

The system features a hybrid chassis combining wheels and tracks, allowing it to traverse uneven and challenging frontline terrain with ease.

The design also helps the platform maintain stability and traction across mud, snow, and rain.

Temerland envisions sending the carrier into deep hostile territory while carrying multiple FPV drones, helping conserve battery life and extend their operational range.

This approach also lets ground forces remain concealed while drones carry out tactical ambushes, keeping troops safe from crossfire and giving them freedom to maneuver into flanking positions.

Communication Channels

The Gnom-DC supports multiple communication methods for versatile deployment, including a standard radio-frequency control for high-speed, wireless maneuvers.

In environments prone to electronic warfare attacks, operators can switch to an optical fiber channel to enable protections against jamming and spoofing.

Once a suitable position is reached, an FPV operator can launch drones remotely through the Gnom-DC’s integrated control system.

Temerland said the carrier and its drones can be fully operational in under 30 minutes.

“This solution minimizes risks to people and expands the capabilities of units through robotic technologies,” the company stated.
