Thales has joined forces with Renault Group to transform a 4×4 platform into what they describe as a “fully functional mobile command center” for unmanned systems.
The “4 TROOP” prototype is designed to operate and coordinate unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) by acting as a command-and-control node.
It can be reconfigured to meet different land-force requirements, with Thales’ Combat Digital Platform providing secure communications, tactical connectivity, and decision-support functions.
A unique Vehicle-to-Load feature enables the platform to supply power externally, allowing the vehicle to double as a mobile charging station for equipment.

Thales has also integrated cybersecurity measures aligned with military connectivity standards, aimed at supporting secure deployment in operational environments.
“4 TROOP goes beyond technological enhancements to show how synergy between Thales expertise and onboard digital systems for vehicles can create an innovative and distinctive integrated environment,” said Christophe Salomon, executive vice president of Secure Communications and Information Systems at Thales.
“Building on existing vehicle software solutions and Thales’s digital platforms, 4 TROOP transforms tactical data into an in-depth, actionable understanding of the environment to anticipate developments, decide and act with greater agility, efficiency, and security.”
A Hybrid Drivetrain
The 4 TROOP platform is built around a hybrid drivetrain intended to support both low-signature movement and extended-range operations. It is positioned as a multi-mission vehicle capable of reconnaissance, escort, and logistical support roles.
Renault said it is leveraging its automotive and electronic architecture expertise to position the vehicle as a mass-producible system that can be rapidly deployed at lower cost.
The company also plans to provide after-sales maintenance support for military customers over the platform’s service life.
Renault added that the underlying technology could be adapted for other vehicle types, including SUVs and utility platforms.
