A new lightweight module from Peraso Inc. could help drones move more data without adding significant weight to their communications hardware.

The PRM2145 uses the company’s 60-gigahertz millimeter-wave (mmWave) technology to deliver secure, low-latency communications while keeping power consumption and weight requirements low.

It is positioned to strengthen command-and-control links, support high-definition video transmission, and improve how drones talk to each other while remaining resilient to electronic warfare.

The PRM2145 also uses beamforming technology to create directional communication links that are more difficult to detect, intercept, or disrupt.

“The introduction of the PRM2145 demonstrates Peraso’s strategy of leveraging its core mmWave intellectual property and technology leadership to address high-value market opportunities beyond traditional fixed wireless access applications,” said Mike Hamilton, Peraso Vice President of Business Development.

“We continue to see substantial interest in secure communications technologies for defense and autonomous systems, and we believe the PRM2145 strengthens our position in these attractive and expanding markets.”

Making Drone Comms More Resilient

The PRM2145 is aimed at the growing demand for communications systems that can maintain reliable links for drones operating in challenging radio-frequency environments.

Peraso pointed to the expanding use of drones in military, homeland security, public safety, and commercial applications as a driver for higher-bandwidth communications.

The company said the module can support greater bandwidth than conventional radio systems.

“We believe the product is well positioned to support a broad range of emerging [drone] applications, where reliability, security, low latency, and jam resistance are mission critical,” said Peraso CEO Ronald Glibbery.

The PRM2145 is expected to become available to customers in late 2026.
