A project involving six defense firms has resulted in the creation of the “Hunter-Killer,” an autonomous unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) duo assembled in less than a week.

Designed to operate as a ground-based counter-air kill chain, the two robotic systems work together to detect, track, and engage aerial threats without direct human input.

Hunter acts as the sensing and tracking platform, while Killer is equipped to kinetically eliminate identified targets.

The paired UGVs ride on large off-road wheels for mobility across uneven terrain and can be reconfigured for different mission requirements.

‘Six Companies, One Cohesive Team’

Denver-based AZAK supplied the base platforms for both vehicles, while HavocAI integrated the autonomous driving software.

Allen Control Systems fitted Killer with its Bullfrog weapon system, and Leonardo DRS equipped Hunter with the Advanced Compact Hemispheric Radar.

California-based Picogrid unified the systems’ components before Anduril Industries integrated its Lattice command-and-control platform to coordinate both UGVs.

Operation Jailbreak

The effort was part of “Operation Jailbreak,” a demonstration aimed at showing how defense firms can rapidly combine technologies into operational systems for modern military missions.

AZAK presented the Hunter-Killer system to US Army officials alongside Army Chief Technology Officer Dr. Alex Miller.

“This is the future of defense procurement and technology integration — fast, modular, collaborative, and lethal,” AZAK stated on social media.
