Danish firm MDSI and Ukrainian drone maker Armadrone have shown how a once-watchful platform can turn lethal, successfully releasing a precision-guided munition from the air.

The demo, staged during the Uncrewed Innovation Day 2025 in Denmark, paired Armadrone’s PUNISHER surveillance drone with MDSI’s MAILMAN guided weapon.

The drone reportedly executed a controlled release of the guided munition, validating compatibility and performance in live environment.

“This demonstration confirms the effectiveness of integrating precision-guided capabilities with uncrewed systems, offering new possibilities for defense and security operations,” MDSI Chief Executive Officer Wagner Reinhard said in a press release.

“We are proud to collaborate with Armadrone in pushing the boundaries of innovation.”

The demo marked the first public pairing of the combat-tested PUNISHER platform with the MAILMAN munition.

A Closer Look: MAILMAN

The MAILMAN is a guided payload carrier designed for all-weather use.

It can deliver a one-kilogram (2.2-pound) warhead from airborne platforms, making it an “ideal solution” for drone applications, according to MDSI.

It can reportedly be manufactured at low cost using 3D-printing without sacrificing performance.

MAILMAN’s modularity supports anti-personnel, anti-armor, and incendiary strikes, but it can also be adapted for humanitarian roles such as search and rescue.

A Detailed View: PUNISHER

Armadrone presents the PUNISHER as a reusable drone with “the world’s lowest mission cost.”

It has an operating range of around 60 kilometers (37.28 miles) and is capable of reaching speeds up to 45 meters (147.6 feet) per second.

During combat missions, Armadrone reports that the airstrike drone comes equipped with thermal and daylight cameras while being resistant to electronic warfare attacks.

Its modular capabilities mean that it can be deployed to reconnaissance and strike operations as well as help douse fires.
