Textron Systems has unveiled the Damocles launched effect (LE), a new modular payload system designed to give operators an edge in peer-warfare environments.

The Damocles LE can field the company’s GEN2 explosively formed penetrator (EFP) for top-attack missions or carry alternate payloads for electronic-warfare (EW) and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) roles.

The system includes advanced artificial intelligence to assist target engagement while keeping a human in the loop for mission supervision and decisions. 

Damocles can be deployed as either a ground- or air-delivered effect and features a low acoustic signature to reduce detectability during operations.

Top Attack Power, Measured Risk

Textron positions the GEN2 EFP as the system’s primary penetrating effect, optimized for top-attack engagements in which targets are struck from above where armor is typically weakest.

Using a modular open systems architecture, Damocles LE can be reconfigured with different payloads to support varied concepts of operations, from EW effects to ISR or strike missions.

Textron also highlights built-in safety measures to reduce the risk of unexploded ordnance and hazardous battlefield remnants.

Its combination of autonomous tracking, AI-assisted targeting, and human oversight aims to balance speed and accuracy with operator control.
