A drone interceptor measuring only 1 foot (0.3 meters) long has emerged as a Swedish startup’s lightweight solution for countering aerial threats.

Developed by Nordic Air Defence, the K100XR is designed to detect and engage hostile targets in real time using onboard AI and enhanced autonomous capabilities.

It can fly at speeds of 354 kilometers (220 miles) per hour and loiter for up to 20 minutes, relying on onboard AI to take down threats with minimal operator input.

Nordic Air Defence recently demonstrated the K100XR against simulated airborne threats, with footage showing the propeller-driven drone intercepting targets in flight.

The company positions the system as a counter to one-way attack drones such as Iran’s Shahed series, as well as reconnaissance unmanned aerial vehicles, allowing operators to reserve more capable first-person view systems for higher-priority missions.

A ‘Radio-Silent’ Platform

Built from carbon fiber, the K100XR can operate at altitudes of up to 1,000 meters (3,281 feet) within a 3-kilometer (2-mile) engagement range.

Once launched, the drone can autonomously search for enemy aircraft without maintaining a connection to a central server.

Nordic Air Defence describes the system as “radio-silent,” meaning it can intercept targets without transmitting signals to a ground controller, reducing its vulnerability to jamming and interception.

“We’ve built a team of engineers, operators, and builders who move fast, solve hard problems, and turn complex systems into working capability,” said company CEO Karl Rosander, as quoted by Resilience Media.

“With Sweden as our base, we’re continuing to grow internationally — scaling fast and building capability where it matters most: in the field.”
