A new multi-mission drone mounted with an infantry rifle has emerged as Iraq’s latest push to pair all-day airborne surveillance with integrated firepower support.

The country’s National Security Service (INSS) recently unveiled the “SARA 1,” a lightweight unmanned aerial system configured to provide direct battlefield fire support.

Official footage shows a quadcopter design with thermal imaging cameras for night and low-visibility operations.

The platform also features a dedicated compartment designed to mount various infantry rifles, including light machine guns, suggesting a modular approach to firepower tailored to different mission requirements.

“As part of developing technical and intelligence capabilities, we announce the introduction of the SARA 1 multi-mission drone system to support field security monitoring and operations,” the INSS said, as quoted by Iraqi News Agency.

“The drone is equipped with advanced monitoring and vision systems that operate day and night and in various conditions, with high maneuverability and rapid response capabilities.”

Ready for Operations?

SARA-1 has completed field tests, reportedly validating its ability to carry out security missions with precision.

Test footage showed the drone circling a building before engaging simulated targets in succession.

A soldier was also shown operating the system via a tablet, with the drone relaying a live video feed of multiple simulated targets moving inside a structure.
