Hexagon’s NovAtel is laying the groundwork for future intelligent positioning with OEM8, its new platform for demanding environments.
Developed with Belgian firm Septentrio, the tech brings signal processing, positioning, and sensor fusion technologies into a single architecture.
This setup is designed to simplify integration with other systems and sustain positioning performance in challenging conditions, giving users greater confidence in the data they receive.
Potential applications include unmanned aerial vehicles, defense platforms, geospatial devices, and ground transport.

“Our customers are building increasingly intelligent systems in environments where confidence is essential,” said Jonathan Auld, president of the NovAtel Positioning Division at Hexagon.
“OEM8 reflects our commitment to working alongside those customers, delivering a platform designed to evolve alongside their changing requirements while creating a common architecture for the next generation of NovAtel solutions.”
NovAtel expects to share more details about OEM8 in the coming months.
Meeting Demand
The platform arrives as connected and autonomous systems place growing demands on positioning technology.

NovAtel said OEM8 builds on decades of work with customers and gives its future positioning solutions a common architecture.
The company expects that foundation to speed up development as customer requirements change.
“The next evolution of autonomous systems… will require a platform that deeply integrates positioning, inertial measurement, and interference protection from the start, rather than treating them as separate components brought together later,” the company stated.
“That is the design principle behind our next-generation receiver. This is a foundational technology platform built for today’s applications and ready for what’s next.”
