The German Special Forces Command (KSK) and Flensburg Technology Systems (FTS) have unveiled a new 3.2-ton (7,055-pound) tactical vehicle capable of carrying nearly its own weight in payload.
Known as the Light Airborne Tactical Vehicle (TAHR), the platform comes in two variants tailored to different missions: a combat version and a support model.
Built to accommodate three personnel, the combat variant can carry a range of weapons, including a 12.7mm heavy machine gun, an MG6 minigun, or a grenade launcher.
The unarmed support variant carries a two-person crew and is configured to transport equipment and supplies across the battlefield.
Based on the Israeli ZD platform, the TAHR features several modifications, including a diesel engine in place of the original gasoline powerplant and a redesigned roll cage.
Its open design gives the crew an unobstructed view of their surroundings, helping them monitor the battlefield and spot threats from multiple directions.
The TAHR is compatible with the Bundeswehr’s existing CH-53 heavy transport helicopters, while a CH-47 Chinook can carry two vehicles at once.
According to FTS, the vehicle can be ready for operations within minutes of landing, allowing crews to move into action with minimal preparation.
First Pre-Series Vehicle Presented
FTS presented the TAHR to Brigadier General Andreas Kühne, commander of the Special Forces Command, at the 10th KSK Defence Symposium in Altensteig-Wart, Germany.
“We are proud to be making a direct contribution to the future operational readiness of the Bundeswehr and the KSK by presenting the first pre-series vehicle ahead of schedule,” said Jörg Kamper, managing director of FTS.
“Achieving this important project milestone is only possible if, as in the current EGF project, all parties involved work together in a focused and coordinated manner.”
