California’s SiLC Technologies is betting on 4D sensing to improve battlefield awareness with Eyeonic Vista, a system designed to track, classify, and monitor small targets beyond one kilometer (0.62 miles).

The tool uses an eight-channel architecture and region-of-interest scaling, allowing it to dynamically shift focus between frames and refine areas of interest as needed.

It can reportedly isolate individual objects with clarity and distinguish real threats from decoys even at distances where conventional sensors struggle to produce usable detail.

Vista relies on a frequency-modulated continuous wave laser-based sensing system to generate detailed 3D mapping data while operating across all weather and lighting conditions.

It can also measure the speed and direction of moving objects in real time and uses dual-polarization imaging to help differentiate between materials.

Built for multi-sensor battlefield environments, the platform is designed to maintain stable performance even amid signal interference or disruption attempts.

SiLC said the system supports missions ranging from counter-drone operations to port and maritime monitoring, with the ability to identify humans, vehicles, drones, and unauthorized vessels.

It can also be deployed across sensitive infrastructure, including airports, borders, prisons, ports, power stations, and military facilities.

Keeping Pace With Complex Threats

The launch comes as defense and security environments become increasingly crowded with low-cost autonomous systems and rapidly moving unmanned platforms.

Traditional sensing technologies often struggle to classify small drones operating within cluttered environments, creating challenges for military and maritime monitoring missions where distinguishing harmless objects from potential threats is critical.

Vista is designed to address those gaps by combining long-range sensing with more advanced target classification across defense applications.

“Our high-resolution, long-range performance is driven by our innovative silicon photonics engine, which integrates multiple laser channels and coherent detectors on a single chip,” said Mehdi Asghari, chief executive officer of SiLC Technologies.

“Vista leverages eight parallel channels to capture more data points per target, enabling precise imaging even in the most difficult outdoor conditions.”
