Indian firm Svaayatt Systems is bringing beyond-line-of-sight capability to its new unmanned ground vehicle (UGV), eliminating the need for fixed communications infrastructure.

Known as the SGV-500, the uncrewed platform uses an aerial relay node to bridge communications between the vehicle and its operator.

This allows it to maintain connectivity in terrain where direct radio links are blocked by mountains, forests, or buildings.

According to the company, the approach also extends the UGV’s operating range, enabling operators to control the platform from up to 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) away.

Inside the SGV-500

The SGV-500 is equipped with a 360-degree sensor and camera suite that provides operators with all-around situational awareness.

Its modular payload bay can be configured for intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance, explosive ordnance disposal, logistics support, and casualty evacuation missions.

The vehicle can operate autonomously or through a secure remote-control link, reducing the need to send personnel into hazardous environments.

Svaayatt Systems said the platform is designed for defense and security operations, border patrol, industrial inspection, disaster response, and critical infrastructure protection.

Field Testing

The SGV-500 recently completed field trials with the Indian Army to assess its performance in demanding operational conditions.

During the tests, the UGV traveled more than 40 kilometers (25 miles) on a single charge and reached speeds of up to 30 kilometers (19 miles) per hour.
