Two US firms are teaming up to tackle the US military’s logistics challenges by developing collapsible 20-foot (6-meter) shipping containers.
Marine container developer GenFlat Holdings has entered an agreement with New Jersey-based SEA BOX to build a prototype following interest from several US military branches.
GenFlat will contribute its collapsible container technology, which is designed to reduce the space required to reposition empty units. This could free up valuable transport capacity for other cargo, including tactical military vehicles and equipment.
The design aims to let multiple collapsed containers fit within the space typically occupied by a single standard container.

SEA BOX, meanwhile, will serve as GenFlat’s exclusive manufacturer, drawing on its existing production lines and longstanding relationships with US government and military customers.
“SEA BOX is an ideal strategic collaborator as we work to introduce GenFlat technology to the US defense market,” GenFlat CEO Matt Albanese said.
“Our objective is straightforward: demonstrate that GenFlat can help the military move containers more efficiently, reduce the logistical burden associated with empty equipment, and make better use of critical transportation assets.”
Bringing the Tech to the Military
Beyond developing the prototype, the companies have agreed to work together to market the collapsible containers to the US military.
The partnership gives GenFlat access to SEA BOX’s established government and military customer relationships, potentially helping it bring the technology to defense customers.
“Military logistics demands durable, practical solutions that can perform in challenging environments,” SEA BOX President Jim Brennan said.
“We look forward to completing the prototype and working with GenFlat to evaluate how this technology can support the evolving logistics requirements of the US Armed Forces.”
