German firm Quantum Systems is broadening its maritime portfolio with two new autonomous vehicles built for persistent surveillance across surface and underwater environments.

The first, Seavex, is a long-endurance unmanned surface vehicle (USV) developed for intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) missions.

Capable of operating for up to two months, the vessel carries surveillance and counter-drone radars alongside electro-optical sensors supported by onboard AI processing.

Quantum Systems envisions Seavex launching and recovering unmanned aerial vehicles while docking, recharging, and retrieving mission data from unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs).

The second platform, Subvex, is an AI-enabled unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV) built for autonomous ISR missions at depths of up to 6,000 meters (19,685 feet). It is equipped with sonar, acoustic sensors, and onboard edge processing.

Subvex can operate in active movement for up to four days, either independently or as part of a distributed fleet. It can also remain on the seabed in passive mode for weeks of underwater surveillance.

Connecting Multiple Domains

Both Seavex and Subvex are integrated into the company’s MOSAIC UXS software architecture, allowing them to operate alongside autonomous air and ground systems.

The architecture creates an interoperable network spanning air, land, surface, and underwater environments while accommodating additional platforms, sensors, and third-party technologies.

According to Quantum Systems, data collected by sensors across the network can be consolidated within a single operational environment.

Once fielded, the two vehicles will support maritime infrastructure protection, border security, anti-submarine monitoring, and blue-water reconnaissance.

“We started in the air… but the real step forward is not adding another domain. It is connecting them,” said Florian Seibel, co-chief executive officer and founder of Quantum Systems. 

“With Seavex and Subvex integrated into MOSAIC UXS, we are building one autonomous system across air, land and sea. That is where unmanned operations are heading, and that is what we are delivering.”

Sea Trials Ahead

Quantum Systems announced the platforms in Portugal during a NATO exercise co-organized by the Portuguese Navy and the European Defence Agency.

Both systems will undergo sea trials to evaluate and validate their capabilities.
