Military teams working across classified and unclassified networks can now use their existing chat platforms to exchange messages between security domains through a new system from Owl Cyber Defense.
Called XD Chat, the solution connects existing chat servers, allowing personnel to share mission updates, intelligence, and tasking without switching to a separate communication platform.
It works with XMPP-compatible systems such as Cisco Jabber and Openfire, supporting communication between both matching and different chat platforms across one or multiple security domains.

Messages are checked before crossing network boundaries, with only validated and authorized content allowed through. This allows organizations to maintain security controls while making information easier to share between teams.
Built for Teams Operating With Limited Bandwidth
XD Chat could be particularly useful for deployed personnel working with limited connectivity. Text messages require less bandwidth than voice or video, providing another way to exchange important updates when network capacity is constrained.
The system also works alongside Owl’s V2CDS cross-domain voice, video, and data solution, which is US Government-certified. It can be deployed on rugged hardware designed for low size, weight, and power requirements.
“XD Chat lets users keep the chat platforms their teams already know and utilize them across security domains, even where bandwidth is scarce,” said Scott Orton, CEO of Owl Cyber Defense.
XD Chat is already available to customers, with Owl planning to add support for more chat platforms and protocols in the coming months.
