Saab is giving its Giraffe AMB radar a new role at sea, allowing naval forces to track threats in 3D across both air and surface domains.

The Sea Giraffe AMB D is designed to detect, track, and classify crewed and uncrewed targets, with a focus on early threat detection.

It can spot aerial threats at ranges of up to 250 kilometers (155 miles) and surface targets within 50 kilometers (31 miles).

The radar provides early warning and accurate target data to help naval forces make informed decisions during multi-domain operations.

“Sea Giraffe AMB D takes a proven naval radar capability to the next level, combining increased performance with a low footprint and an architecture built for continuous development,” said Carl-Johan Bergholm, head of Saab’s Surveillance business area.

“It is designed to meet the demands of today’s naval forces while giving customers the flexibility to evolve with future threats.”

Built for Future Threats

The Sea Giraffe AMB D features electronic counter-countermeasures designed to help it resist jamming and spoofing.

Its modular architecture also allows integration with other naval systems, while its software-based design supports future upgrades as threats evolve.

Drawing on more than 70 years of radar development experience, Saab has equipped the system with active electronically scanned array technology to enhance its air surveillance capabilities.
