US-based drone developer Red Cat has unveiled a new vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) system designed to deliver advanced intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities while keeping operational costs down.
Named TRICHON, the drone is intended to meet demand for small uncrewed aircraft that can be produced and deployed at scale, rather than feature-packed systems that are difficult to manufacture in large numbers.
According to Red Cat, TRICHON is a hand-launched, long-endurance ISR platform that combines an electronics core with proven technology already used by US and allied partners.
The approach is intended to lower the cost of deploying the drone in larger numbers.

TRICHON made its public debut at the Association of the US Army’s 2026 Annual Meeting & Exposition.
Unifying the Drone Portfolio
Alongside the new VTOL drone, Red Cat announced the formation of Red Cat Aerial, a new entity that brings the company’s drone portfolio under a single brand.
Red Cat Aerial unites the teams and technologies of Teal Drones and FlightWave Aerospace, bringing systems such as the Black Widow, FAND, Edge 130, and Hellcat under one umbrella.
TRICHON represents the next phase of Red Cat Aerial’s development. The company said it plans to continue expanding the portfolio with platforms and technologies designed to meet changing mission requirements on the modern battlefield.
“As one organization, we can build on the strengths across our portfolio and accelerate the development of purpose-built systems for evolving mission requirements,” Red Cat Aerial CEO Mitch McDonald said.
“TRICHON is the first example of that approach, combining long-endurance ISR with a proven technology foundation in a platform designed to be fielded in meaningful numbers.”
