Land Cruisers are entering tactical use in South Africa as SVI Engineering rolls out the MAX Recon 6×6, a heavily protected modular platform.
The vehicle features full-body ballistic protection covering key areas, including the engine bay, firewall, and roof, along with a split windscreen made of military-grade glass.
It is built around a bogie suspension system and heavy-duty drivetrain components, including rear and through-drive differentials designed to distribute power across all axles.
Based on the Toyota Land Cruiser 70 Series chassis, the MAX RECON uses a 6×6 configuration with selectable drive modes, allowing operation in 6×2, 6×4, or full 6×6 depending on terrain and mission requirements.

The windscreen sections can be folded flat when required, while a co-driver firing station enables forward-facing fire support.
The platform also includes a roof-mounted turret interface, door-mounted weapon stations, and removable composite half doors.
Depending on configuration, the vehicle can be fitted with a canvas roof, while full armored doors can be installed for higher protection levels.
Flexible Roles
The MAX RECON is designed for multi-role operations, ranging from reconnaissance missions to serving as a mobile drone operations base.
It can be equipped with a range of weapon systems, including a ZU-23 autocannon, a 14.5mm anti-aircraft system, Scorpion automated mortars, or a 107mm rocket system.

The platform can also integrate communications suites, command and control systems, and electronic warfare capabilities, including jamming tools.
“In recent times, it’s become clear that the modern battlefield demands speed, adaptability, and firepower,” the company stated.
“The SVI MAX Recon has been designed to meet these precise requirements, specifically engineered with rapid reconfiguration in mind.”
