China appears to have conducted the maiden flight of its new sixth-generation fighter aircraft, marking a significant milestone in its efforts to challenge US dominance in air combat.
Videos and images shared on social media show an unfamiliar tailless fighter jet soaring over Sichuan province on December 26.
Accompanying the new jet was a J-20 fighter, reportedly serving as a “chase plane” during the test flight.
While details about the new fighter remain largely undisclosed, zoomed-in shots reveal some intriguing details, including its double-delta wing design believed to optimize performance at supersonic speeds.
The aircraft is also expected to possess advanced stealth capabilities, potentially making it more difficult for enemy radars to detect.
Beijing has not officially confirmed the flight, but the timing of the test is notable, as it coincides with the birthday of Mao Zedong, the founding father of the People’s Republic of China.

In 2022, China unveiled a conceptual design for its stealthy sixth-generation fighter, aiming to rival the US Air Force’s Next Generation Air Dominance (NGAD) jet.

The US NGAD program aims to field its sixth-generation fighter by the 2030s, while the UK, Italy, and Japan are also working on next-generation jets to replace their Eurofighter Typhoons by 2035.
