Thales has introduced its Panoramic next-generation night vision goggles at a special operations tech event in Martignas-sur-Jalle, France.
Designed for high-risk missions like counterterrorism and extraction, the system features four light intensification tubes, giving dismounted troops a wider field of view without needing to turn their heads.
Weighing just 740 grams (26 ounces), the device is compact, no wider than a helmet, and ergonomically designed for extended wear.
Unlike traditional four-eye binoculars, the Panoramic features an independent flip-up function, allowing each tube to be raised separately and to power off automatically for efficiency.
It also supports an external battery pack for longer missions.
Fully funded by France’s Defence Innovation Agency, the system is now undergoing military testing for future deployment with the French Army.
“Thales’s team technical expertise allowed the development of a ground-breaking night vision solution offering the robust design and outstanding performance needed to support the success of night-time missions and protect our soldiers at their most vulnerable moments,” Thales Optronics Vice President Alexis Morel remarked.
