Ukraine has tested a new class of guided munitions called Firefly on its main bomber drones, validating its effectiveness for precision strikes in operational environments.

Designed to engage hardened sites, bunkers, and protected targets, the munition operates at altitudes up to 800 meters (2,625 feet).

It can calculate its own flight path and adjust its trajectory toward the target while maintaining accuracy in environments affected by enemy electronic warfare systems.

Complementing ‘Baba Yaga’

Ukraine previously introduced “Baba Yaga,” a bomb-carrying system designed to carry and release munitions from higher altitudes.

It is derived from a modified version of SkyFall’s “Vampire” unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), with soldiers’ feedback helping shape its development.

Combined with the Firefly munition, both platforms will give Ukrainian forces a more capable option to engage targets while keeping operators out of harm’s way.

Flexible Production Path

Firefly is now moving toward series production after Ukraine’s Cabinet of Ministers adopted resolution No. 1310 in October 2025.

The decision gives Ukraine’s Ministry of Defence the ability to transfer Firefly technology rights to private companies.

Manufacturers and developers within the Brave1 ecosystem can also join to expand production and adapt the munition into their own platforms.
