European NH90 helicopters are getting “smarter eyes” in the sky, thanks to Safran Electronics & Defense’s next-gen technology.
Known as Eurofl’Eye, this advanced Distributed Aperture System (DAS) gives pilots a full 360-degree view of their surroundings, eliminating blind spots and enhancing navigation safety.
It fuses imagery from six wide-field infrared cameras into a real-time, helmet-mounted display, letting crews maintain awareness without diverting attention.
By delivering uninterrupted panoramic vision, Eurofl’Eye helps crews operate in challenging conditions, from night missions to dust and fog.
The system also supports obstacle detection and self-protection, giving pilots the situational awareness needed for rapid, accurate decision-making in high-pressure scenarios.

“Eurofl’Eye aims to streamline access to crucial operational information, placing vital insights directly in the pilot’s field of vision,” said Alexandre Ziegler, Executive Vice President of Safran’s Defense Business Unit.
“By enhancing responsiveness and facilitating quick decision-making, especially under adverse conditions, this program exemplifies the strength of collaboration among European defense industries.”
Ready for Action
Safran has secured a deal with the NATO Helicopter Management Agency to supply Eurofl’Eye for French and Spanish NH90 fleets.
The tech has already passed operational evaluations by the French Direction Générale de l’Armement (DGA) and the Spanish Dirección General de Armamento y Material, clearing the way for official deployment.
Its development tapped cross-border expertise among European defense firms, enhancing innovation and giving helicopter crews a sharper operational edge.
