L3Harris is giving military forces new eyes for night missions with its Nova binoculars, a device the company said is built for the “everyday soldier.”
Nova is the commercial variant of the company’s BiNOD (Binocular Night Observation Device), reflecting a push toward a lower-cost, easier-to-field binocular design intended to scale across the US Army and allied forces.
A key differentiator is maintainability. The device is designed to be easily repaired, requiring users to remove just four screws to swap out damaged components such as internal intensification tubes.

“We’re meeting the needs of the US Army, militaries around the world, and public safety officials by creating a system that delivers critical night-vision functions at scale,” L3Harris President of Integrated Vision Solutions Brenna Baker said.
“The NOVA binocular system is the night-vision system this generation of warfighters will think of when someone says, ‘night vision.’”
Complementary Capability
L3Harris will continue offering higher-end systems such as the ENVG-B (Enhanced Night Vision Goggles–Binocular) and BNVD (Binocular Night Vision Device), which emphasize advanced threat identification and extended battery life.
Nova, by contrast, is positioned as a more practical option for special operations and broader force use.
The company said the system is built to keep troops effective across day and night missions, while reducing the sustainment burden typically associated with night-vision gear.

L3Harris also plans to expand the Nova lineup, with future variants expected to add features such as a partial heads-up display, integrated batteries, and greater immersion.
“The first to benefit from a NOVA system is the warfighter, border patrol agent or tactical officer who doesn’t have high-quality night vision,” said Matt Lufkin, product management lead for L3Harris.
“NOVA binoculars are economical to purchase and own. It gives these professionals more military-grade capability than previously available.”
