Indra Group is targeting a long-standing limitation in submarine operations with a new high-speed satellite terminal designed to boost connectivity underwater.
Unlike traditional military systems that rely on the X band or civilian networks that use Ku band, the new “TSUB-40Ka” terminal operates on the Ka band for higher data rates.
This enables faster information transfer, with speeds reportedly reaching above 1 megabyte per second.
It also allows submarines to use more compact antennas, which is critical in space-constrained platforms and could improve overall operational performance.

The terminal has been certified for use with Spain’s SpainSat NG military satellite and is said to meet American and NATO standards.
Its integration into submarine platforms is designed to improve resilience against signal interference, cyberattacks, and communications loss in degraded environments.
Secure, Homegrown Capability
With SpainSat NG operating across multiple signal bands, the TSUB-40Ka certification unlocks a secure, high-capacity connectivity that does not rely on foreign infrastructure.
Indra said the new system is positioned to address what it describes as the “strategic challenges of the coming decade,” adding that it expands “secure connectivity options for governmental and military operations.”
“With this development, Indra is responding to the growing need to incorporate higher‑bandwidth communications capabilities into demanding operational environments,” the company stated.
