Pilots of US Navy fixed-wing aircraft are gearing up for a new generation of headborne protection as Michigan-based Gentex Corporation is set to supply the service with its PURSUIT helmet system.
Designed to support modern helmet-mounted displays, PURSUIT uses a lightweight carbon shell frame to reduce neck and spine strain for users.
Its optimized center of gravity also helps lower the risk of injury during extended missions and high-G force maneuvers.

Gentex added a redesigned ventilation system to prevent heat buildup during long flights, while heat-resistant and sweat-absorbing pads aim to keep pilots comfortable and mission-ready.
The helmet also comes in four sizes, allowing for a snug, out-of-the-box fit.
PURSUIT reportedly meets both US Navy and US Air Force standards, positioning it to support the demands of next-generation aerial combat.
Modernizing the Force
Gentex is fielding PURSUIT under a 5-year contract as part of the US Navy’s Next Generation Fixed Wing Helmet (NGFWH) initiative.
The program reflects the service’s push to modernize aircrew flight gear, investing roughly $22 million for more than 5,000 units.

“This contract award from the US Navy is a significant milestone for Gentex and demonstrates our unwavering commitment to advancing the world’s most innovative protection solutions for warfighters,” Gentex Aircrew Systems Vice President Robert McCay said.
“The PURSUIT system delivers meaningful advancements in aircrew safety, comfort, and mission performance, ensuring Naval Aviators and Naval Flight Officers are equipped with technology that keeps pace with the rapidly evolving demands of modern aviation.”
