Israeli Black Hawk pilots are gaining enhanced situational awareness as Elbit Systems equips the fleet with its new Helmet Display and Tracking System (HDTS), a solution designed to optimize flight performance and safety.

The HDTS delivers real-time, 3D “video game-style” views of terrain, obstacles, and flight paths, giving crews a virtual cockpit perspective that cuts through dust, fog, and low-light conditions.

It also helps during approach and landing, with a synthetic landing display that keeps pilots aware of the ground and obstacles in extreme brownout situations.

These features enable pilots to make faster, more informed decisions, especially in missions where every second can decide the outcome.

“We are proud to continue our longstanding and successful cooperation with the Israeli Air Force,” Elbit Aerospace General Manager Yoram Shmuely said.

“Elbit Systems is a global leader in helmet system technologies, supplying advanced head mounted solutions for a wide range of aircraft platforms worldwide.”

Eyes on Everything

Built with advanced head-tracking technology, the helmet ensures critical flight data stays in view, even when pilots move their heads.

It also reportedly reduces the risk of human error and improves coordination among cockpit crew.

Thanks to its open architecture, HDTS can integrate additional sensors, external video feeds, and navigation systems, consolidating all inputs into a single helmet-mounted display.

“This program further strengthens Elbit’s position as a next generation provider of integrated aircrew solutions,” Shmuely stated.
