Canada is putting a spotlight on a new generation of mine-resistant ambush-protected (MRAP) vehicles with a tactical armored platform duo built for “for high mobility in extreme environments.”
Unveiled at the Eurosatory 2026 event in Paris, the new platforms from International Armored Group (IAG) are positioned as direct answers to evolving battlefield threats faced by modern forces.
They reflect different approaches to armored survivability: one prioritizes speed and mobility, while the other emphasizes protection and mission flexibility for high-threat environments.
‘Lightest and Fastest’ in Its Class
The “Rila Xtreme,” the latest addition to IAG’s armored vehicle portfolio, is claimed to be the lightest and fastest MRAP in its class.
It is designed to withstand a blast equivalent to 100 kilograms (220 pounds) of TNT detonated at the side, while also protecting occupants from a 10-kilogram (22-pound) explosive detonated on direct parts of the vehicle.
The platform features an independent suspension system for improved stability over rough terrain, alongside a 24-volt electrical architecture that powers onboard communications systems.
It also includes an automatic central tire inflation system controlled from the dashboard, complete with real-time pressure monitoring and selectable terrain modes.
Powered by a 370-horsepower diesel engine and a 6-speed automatic transmission, the MRAP reaches speeds of up to 110 kilometers (68 miles) per hour.
With a 200-liter fuel tank, it can carry a 10-person crew for distances of over 600 kilometers (373 miles) on a single load.
Survivability From the Ground Up
The second platform, the “Guardian Xtreme,” is available in 4×4 and 6×6 configurations and is built around a V-shaped hull designed to deflect blast forces from underneath.
It provides all-around ballistic and blast protection, with additional armor options available for enhanced survivability.
The vehicle can carry up to 12 fully equipped soldiers, with seating engineered to reduce injury from explosive impacts.
Operators can also configure the Guardian Xtreme with a range of mission systems, including remote weapon stations, thermal surveillance cameras, grenade launchers, and blackout lighting.
Both the Guardian and Rila Xtreme are available exclusively to government, military, and law enforcement customers.
