Belgian company IDDEA has brought its MEGA-Army artificial intelligence platform to BEDEX 2026 in Brussels, using the event to demonstrate how military equipment can be identified from images and translated into structured technical data in seconds.

The showcase marks the system’s first appearance at a major defense exhibition, positioning it in front of European defense stakeholders exploring new tools for training and situational awareness.

Rather than relying on manual identification, the platform applies AI to analyze visual inputs and match them against a reference database of military systems.

The result is an output that organizes key details into usable information, offering a faster way to process imagery in training environments and reference scenarios.

AI That Interprets Military Imagery

At the core of MEGA-Army is an image recognition system that compares uploaded or captured photos of military platforms against a structured database of known vehicles and weapons.

Within moments, the system identifies the equipment and presents data such as designation, country of origin, armament, mobility traits, and other distinguishing characteristics.

The platform draws on a proprietary database of more than 1,700 military systems spanning multiple categories, including armored vehicles, artillery, air defense systems, radars, missile platforms, and tactical vehicles.

These entries cover a wide range of countries, incorporating both NATO and non-NATO equipment, which allows the system to function as a broad reference tool across different operational contexts.

Designed for Training and Offline Deployment

Beyond recognition, MEGA-Army is also aimed at supporting training, particularly in helping personnel build familiarity with identifying military equipment through visual cues.

Each entry in the database includes image galleries showing platforms from multiple angles, along with highlighted features that help distinguish variants and similar systems.

The platform is also capable of operating offline through a locally stored database, enabling its use in environments where internet connectivity is limited or unavailable.

The dataset, sized at just over 200 megabytes, can be deployed on portable devices and customized by users, including filtering equipment by country or category depending on training or analytical needs.

This allows the tool to be used across classroom settings, exercises, and field environments where network access cannot always be guaranteed.
