As sixth-generation fighter jets move closer to reality, BAE Systems has unveiled a helmet-mounted system designed to help pilots manage battlefield data and command fleets of drones during future air combat missions.

Project Intuity combines crew protection, head tracking, 3D audio cueing, and battlespace visualization through dual quad high-definition visor displays.

The system overlays flight, sensor, and targeting information directly into the pilot’s field of view, minimizing the need to look away from the mission.

By filtering and prioritizing critical data, the interface reduces cognitive workload, improves situational awareness, and enables faster decision-making in complex combat environments.

Its open architecture also provides the interface needed to cue autonomous collaborative platforms, supporting future human-machine teaming.

Leading the Drone Wingman Era

Project Intuity comes as combat aircraft evolve into airborne command centers, requiring pilots to process unprecedented volumes of information from an expanding range of sensors and systems.

According to Andrew Macklin-Smith, product line director at BAE Systems, the tech addresses that challenge by integrating capabilities that allow pilots to command fleets of drones while presenting the most critical information within their natural field of view.

“Project Intuity follows decades of combat-proven experience with more than 1,000 BAE Systems helmet-mounted displays in operation across 10 nations,” the company stated.

“Moving forward, work on developing and maturing the system in line with customer priorities will continue at the company’s facilities in Rochester, UK.”

The tech is set to make its public debut at the Farnborough International Airshow on July 20-24, 2026.
